On October 7, 2001, the United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom when U.S. forces began combat operations in Afghanistan in a hunt for Osama Bin Ladin and the parties responsible for the unprovoked attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
Nine years later, with more troops in country then ever before, the hunt for Al Qaeda and Taliban leadership continues and an international nation-building effort is underway to provide long-lasting stability to the region.
