U.S. sailors assigned to the USS San Antonio rescued 128 men from the Mediterranean Sea on Wednesday, the Navy said.
The service said the men were taken aboard the San Antonio, an amphibious transport dock ship. A Maltese patrol aircraft spotted the raft being rocked by wind and waves. Located about 60 nautical miles away, the San Antonio, answered the call from the Maltese government.
The Navy crew used two 11-person boats to rescue the men from the raft, which was about 75 nautical miles southwest of Malta.
