Scott Lange Kirkpatrick, U.S. Army

Sergeant Scott Lange Kirkpatrick, a prolific poet, performed at a poetry slams in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, as well as in Boston, Chicago, and the Nuyorcian Soul Café in New York City. He won the DC Slam Championship in 2000 performing his poem, "Dance Lessons." After September 11, and much reflection, Kirkpatrick joined the Army. Stationed at Fort Stewart in Savannah, his first deployment was to Sadr City in Baghdad in Arab Jabour. Kirkpatrick and three others were killed by a house bomb while pursuing a sniper on August 11, 2007. "Night Patrol" was written in 2005.
